Candy Crash

White Horse, Sugar, Blow, Rush etc
A rich man's skeyf as it is known in the hood
Cocaine.
It brings a thrill to its takers, seduces you until you entirely depend on it
And then, THEN, when you least expect it, dependency hits.
Before you know it you are not you until you have had a sniff.
It becomes your only friend and like a poisonous relationship, slowly destroys your esteem that you think you can't be without it.
Welcome to addiction, cocaine addiction, the reason behind the early departure of some our our beloved personalities.
You will be lucky if you make it out alive
The Name? Coke. Cocaine, Coke!

Here are some of the souls that that cocaine has deprived of a full life.
Tsakani Mhinga
She was Princess but became better knows as the princess with a velvety smooth voice. an award winning R'n B singer who was found dead in a hotel in Bryanston after an alleged cocaine overdose.

Whitney Houston in her heydays
Known the world over for love songs such as "I will always love you" and "I wanna dance with somebody" amongst the many hits that saw her be the darling of RNB and also as an actress, Whitney was unstoppable. She was IT!
At her lowest: Cocaine has no shame
Of course, her life was not to be that of a shining star forever. And so; allegedly; when she hooked up with bad boy Bobby Brown all hell became loose. she was a party animal. There were all sorts of abuse reports and the introduction by the bad boy to the songbird to the white horse. She was never to be the same. It took control of her life in a way that even her career mattered none despite her family trying to intervene to try get her off drugs and numerous rehab stints. After an on and off relationship with the drug, she was found in a bathtub of a Benerly Hills hotels. it is said that she had overdosed and then tried to take a bath. We all know blacks and water moes!!!!

Mabrrrrr
We all know her as Mabrr. The crazy, carefree and forever on cloud nine Brenda Fassie. Famous for her music from well during apartheid until the 90's Brenda sure is on of those artists whose music must have played in more South African houses than any other solo artist. Look, even white people could be found playing a Brenda Fassie music when it was still illegal. Think olden day Nkalakatha to a white person. Despite having been found in a hotel with a body of one of her friends in her earlier life who is said to have died from and OD & having attended a few rehab programmes Brenda still didn't steer clear of drugs for long. In fact, I don't ever remember seeing her sober in the media, she mostly looked cooked. Yet another victim of the relentless drug, she was rushed to hospital in 2004 after having collapsed At Home.  It was said that it was due to asthma and then Cardiac arrest and then later revealed that it had just been a cocaine overdose. Those in the know will tell you that the coke had been spiked with all sorts of poisons such as ratex. Could this have been the birth of Nyaope?

Amy Winehouse
She shot to fame with her famous single "rehab" where she describes and cries about not wanting to go to rehab. A young lady without a bright future Amy was. She had the most captivating voice, I could listen to her and just be but was a troubled soul in that she was an alcoholic and a junkie who almost romanticized intoxication. She died of alcohol intoxication, but rumour had it that cocaine played a big role in her incident too. I wonder if a person needs to attend rehad before entering the judgement house in heaven.

These are just some of the stars whose lives ended sadly due to a habit. A habit that could have been prevented. A habit that had no business being entertained to begin with. Of course there are some who have beat the beast and went on to live productive lives. I will share with you soon, I know most of your attention spans ended at the end of the poem.

Thanks for letting me share, Bzu.

#TOLALCHEFS6: Grilled Salmon & Chilli Salsa

On TOLAH we are all FOREVER 24 - eyebrows, hair, nails, clothes are always on fleek ...not to mention the square dinner plates (side eyes Auntcle), the stemless wine glasses and oh we love our fine wining & dining. This week we look at cooking salmon.  If you want "easy, fancy," it doesn't get much better than roasted salmon fillets. It can be a mid-week date night, a meal with friends or dinner with the in-laws and salmon will rise to the occasion…Hake for who? For the what?  #Tolahstandards

Ingredients:

For Salsa:                                                                             For Salmon:

Handful chopped coriander                                        Salmon Fillets (with the skin on)
Red chillies (deseeded, chopped)                              Olive oil
8 cherry tomatoes                                                       Salt & Pepper for seasoning
½ cucumber roughly chopped                                                                                                   2 TBSP lemon juice
2 spring onions sliced
1 avocado, chopped
1 TBSP Olive Oil
2 spring onions, sliced

Method:

Preheat oven to 200 Degrees Celsius.  Line a roasting pan or baking sheet with foil.  Rub the salmon with oil, salt, and pepper. Place the salmon in the roasting pan, skin-side down. Transfer to the oven for 12-15mins. While salmon is in the oven, mix all the salsa ingredients together – you can go as light or as heavy on the chillies as you like. To serve, spoon some chilli salsa over the salmon and sprinkle with coriander leaves. Drizzle over some extra virgin olive oil and serve with the lemon halves and the rest of the salsa in a little bowl. Serve with some new potatoes and a green salad.

NB:

* Roasting time depends on the thickness of your salmon - as determined by the thickest part of the salmon fillet.                                                                                                             *Pat paper towels over all sides of each piece of fish before preparation. You want your salmon as dry as possible—the dryer your fish, the better and easier it'll cook.

Until next time,

OPW, Dont remember much, but it seemed like a good wedding, well planned. All the best for the couple... They look good together...

I am enjoying Ayeye yazi...

My weekend in a paragraph? Friday Night my phone screen cracked onto tiny pieces I dont know how, saw it in the morning when I woke up and cut myself trying to make a phone call, after missing Rhofhiwa's calls all night... Tried to get it fixed, and they gave me issues.... Gave me an old phone with some guys Dique on it, sms's from some lady who seemed to have 3 boyfriends... I kept rejecting calls instead of answering... The the worst thing happened... The charger they gave did not work... I had not called Rhof yet to let him know... I was phoneless... I go back to the shop Sunday morning as they told me to at 9 am.... Shop was closed... They only opened at 10:30... The new screen they had bought was faulty too... If all this had happened to Rhof, I would have dumped him 569 times, cried my eyeballs out, and hated all men! I will share more in comments...

I am currently using an Alcatel FM phone worth R119....
