100% Homemade

Homemade household Tips

By now you all know I am a die hard fan of homemade remedies...I'm your ''Ask Gogo''. Some people look at it as being stingy *RME*  Gogo’s concoctions have been practiced for donkey years and we all know we swear by those...they not only help us save but they work as well! And with VAT increment on the way, why not cut costs and give yourself a nice, homemade feet scrub instead of paying R1700 of same ingredients used to Skinsense Spa *hides*. Already @Lufuno and @Mademoiselle are crying over this increment....Below is a list of my favourite homemade ideas….

1. Treating Dandruff
a. 1. Take some coconut oil and mix half the amount of lemon juice in it.
    2. Rub it on your scalp and massage for a few minutes.
    3. Wash your hair after at least 20 minutes. Follow this remedy two to three times a week.

b. 1. Take two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
    2. Mix an equal amount of water and 15-20 drops of tea tree oil in it.
    3. Apply it onto your scalp and massage. Rinse your hair after a few minutes.

c. Heat some extra virgin olive oil until it is slightly warm.
   1. Massage it onto your scalp and then wrap your hair in a warm towel.
   2. Leave it on for at least 45 minutes or overnight and then shampoo and condition your hair.
   3. Repeat this remedy a few times a week.

Apple cider vinegar works as a natural hair clarifier and helps clean clogged pores and hair follicles. Coconut oil helps eliminate dandruff due to its antifungal properties. Some people might find Apple cider vinegar too strong, i usually apply tea tree and eucalyptus oils after washing my hair.

2. Tooth whitener and Blackheads remover
Mix bicarbonate of soda with lemon into a paste and use a brush to apply on your teeth and leave for 5-10 minutes then clean it off with warm water. @Lufuno can we get feedback on this nnake…did you try the remedy?

N.B. Regular use of baking soda can cause permanent damage to teeth

3. Hands/body  and feet soak
a. Mix brown sugar with enough olive oil and honey into a paste (put in a bottle…last longer). Rub it all over hands, scrubbing, wash off and apply hand lotion. It helps moisturise and keeps hands soft and wrinkle free….@IDAHK hello bhuti *waves*

b. For softer, smooth feet, scrub your feet with the brown sugar and olive oil mixture and wash off. In a basic, put a ¼ of original blue Listerine mouthwash and add ¼ vinegar and a cup or 2 warm water and soak your feet for 20-30mins. Dry your feet and apply homemade body butter made of 1 cup coconut oil, 1Tbspn vitamin E oil and 3-5 drops of any essential oil.

c. To treat dry, cracked feet. Clean feet and apply body cream (not lotion!) or blue seal Vaseline, cover with plastic bag and wear socks overnight.  Be careful…plastic makes noise so maybe you should do this one when bae/bab’bae is not around. Thank me later!

4. Facial scrub/masks and toners
Mix the ingredients together in a bowl and apply to your freshly cleansed face. Massage the mixture gently into your skin for several (2-3) minutes before washing off. This scrub is very good for those with oily skin. And instead of brown sugar, you can also use bicarbonate of  soda.

b. Anti aging Exfoliator.

Mix equal parts of lemon juice (fresh), olive oil, brown sugar and honey. Exfoliating  helps makes skin glow!

c. Can we stop using Gentle magic…yes/no? for those who want to turn into abo Mshoza. By end of week 1 you will be a yellow bone *smile*

After cleaning your face, apply milk with a cotton wool or hand to your face and leave over night. Repeat this 3-7 days a week…..Milk do wonders to skin. Dr Mpofu for who?for what?
d.Mix rose water, pure coconut oil and olive oil and use as a toner…especially for those with acne or any problem skin.

Beauty Tip!
In an empty mascara tube, pour castor oil and use it as a serum for lashes and brows. Believe me, you wont need this plastic eyebrows that resembles shongololo legs! Castor oil helps makes brows thicker..

5. Hair
a. For those who are not blessed with @Lufuno’s nice thick hair…….
Peel and chop 2 onions and make into a pulp using a blender. Strain and add 2 tspns honey and any essential oil then apply to your hair focusing on the roots….you can use it as a deep conditioner and cover head with towel and leave overnight. #Poor bab'bae #Onion smell in the kitchen and in bed!

For receding hairline also try this....

-Mix equal parts of eucalyptus oil, olive and pure castor oil and apply around the hairline area. Use daily!

Once or twice a month give your hair a treat with:

P.S.  Coconut oil is very useful for weight loss. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and endocrine system. Further, it increases the body’s metabolic rate by removing stress on the pancreas, thereby burning more energy and helping obese and overweight people lose the weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who use coconut oil every day as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.  *waves @ TOLAHs Wohloza sales rep…

Management complained about my long articles kiiiii so let me stop here…holla if you need more tips…

In our next article, we will be discussing ''getting rid of vaginal odour''  *Sorry boys*

Lovely weekend bethuna…..Kele rata ka lorato la LOVE….

Having the talk: timing is everything

One minute you are preg, all is well and you are amazed at the magic your body is about to perform in bringing a fully baked human into the world; personality, functioning body parts and obviously an attitude to add on. And boom, before you know it your creation's body parts have designated functions, one of which include recreation, and in due course the functions must take place. At this stage, one is to decide on the how's and when's of bringing themselves to filling their offspring's mind with the education of sexual recreation. Decisions, decisions!

WHEN
Ealier this week, I heard an expert mention that from the age of 5, a child is ready to hear and be able to understand the logistics of mating. I won't lie, I was horrified at this. Honestly the child hardly knows that what they possess  does anything more than let urine out. I don't know but this seemed extreme, I mean I'm all for educating the youth but this is more misplaced information overload. However, I also get that it could be so that the child grows up knowing, therefore curiosity gets kept at bay and for the child to be aware should an adult try to molest them then they know it is wrong.

WHO:
In the olden days, a girl child would be tackled by the female parent, while the boy child by the male parent. But now, what about children raised by a single parent? Or does one simply wait for the school to reach this curriculum and hope their child will head home to ask when they are confused?
Personally, nobody ever gave me this talk. The knowledge I have, has been obtained from the streets.

HOW
This is one of the question I wish to be equipped with when the time arrives. I mean, how does one even start? Does one make use of props?

All in all, the question remains as to how and when does one give the talk? Wena? How was your talk? Was it awkward? Will you do it differently when your turn arrives?

#TOLAHCHEFS5 Baking 101: Secrets of a Home Baker

Step 1: Start with some good old fashioned ‘mise en place’ (pronounced ‘meez ahn plahs’, simply put, this means have all your ingredients prepared and ready to go before you start. Preparation is key ladies (and gents and auntcles). Keep a large bowl next to you on the counter to throw in whatever you are done with instead of walking back and forth to the trash can.
Step 2: Take your time to read and understand the recipe. Baking is a science, and when you mix together ingredients, you're creating chemistry, albeit edible chemistry, so being precise is important.
Step 3: It’s really helpful to know a few baking equivalents.
Step 4: Have fun! Everything tastes good if you have fun while making it.

Strawberry & Cream Layer Cake

Ingredients:

Cake Ingredients                                              Icing & Topping Ingredients
350 ml plain yoghurt                                           250g butter
350 ml sunflower oil                                            4 cups icing sugar
500 ml sugar                                                      4 TBS milk
1050 ml self-raising flour                                    1/2 tsp vanilla essence
6 extra-large eggs                                              3 cups of strawberries, sliced
2 tsp vanilla essence
4 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt

Method:

Empty all cake ingredients into a bowl and mix with a beater until ingredients are well blended – be careful not to overmix. Pour batter into 4 round cake tins that have been greased or lined with wax paper. Bake at 180 °C for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pans and before taking out. To make icing – place butter in a mixing bowl and beat until soft, add the icing sugar, milk and vanilla essence. Beat until smooth. Ice each layer and place sliced strawberries on top of the icing in each layer. Place uncut strawberries on the top layer or decorate as you wish.

*You can use whipped cream as a filling for each layer instead of the buttercream icing.
*Baking with oil vs butter – I will save you from the long explanations but to make a super moist cake, oil outperforms butter is in its ability to coat flour proteins, which reduces gluten formation and keeps the crumb extra tender. Personally, I use either butter or flour depending on what I am making, remember there is no right or wrong here.

Weekend round up

Happy Monday and I trust everyone had a wonderful Mandela weekend. I know I did.

Saturday morning, I joined a group of a well known cosmetics & toileteries company at the Usindiso Ministries; you will remember the home as the one where we donated food and clothes a few weeks ago; to do my 67 minutes for the Mandela steez. Of course, I was late for the event but when I finally made it to the home, fun was had. It was refreshing to see that there were a number of groups at the home doing their bit to assist in painting and spending time with the children. As we were busy painting I remembered a controversial blogger mentioning to remember to give back in our own families too so I drove straight to my grans house for some family time. I must say, there is nothing as beautiful as family and the unconditional love you get from sincere loving people like grannies and children.
On all 4's, working hard

There was this handsome dude with a killer voice. pitty he isn't a yellowbone but he's my type
Painters are gonna paint

At Work with Zero slayage in that jumpsuit!
Yesterday was spent with the rebae but the happiness was soon disturbed by my recent ex who decided to phone and try break my happy union with this man, I will tell you more in the comment section.

I did not read any Sunday papers nor watch any tv, as y'all can imagine it was the butternut weekend. I wrapped it up this morning by driving back with Sasha Fierce on full blast and got an SLK driving daddy's attention. I will not call him, I am going to act right and delete his numbers right now.

What did you get up to? Did you do your 67 minutes? Do share...
