100% Homemade

Homemade household Tips

By now you all know I am a die hard fan of homemade remedies...I'm your ''Ask Gogo''. Some people look at it as being stingy *RME*  Gogo’s concoctions have been practiced for donkey years and we all know we swear by those...they not only help us save but they work as well! And with VAT increment on the way, why not cut costs and give yourself a nice, homemade feet scrub instead of paying R1700 of same ingredients used to Skinsense Spa *hides*. Already @Lufuno and @Mademoiselle are crying over this increment....Below is a list of my favourite homemade ideas….

1. Treating Dandruff
a. 1. Take some coconut oil and mix half the amount of lemon juice in it.
    2. Rub it on your scalp and massage for a few minutes.
    3. Wash your hair after at least 20 minutes. Follow this remedy two to three times a week.

b. 1. Take two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
    2. Mix an equal amount of water and 15-20 drops of tea tree oil in it.
    3. Apply it onto your scalp and massage. Rinse your hair after a few minutes.

c. Heat some extra virgin olive oil until it is slightly warm.
   1. Massage it onto your scalp and then wrap your hair in a warm towel.
   2. Leave it on for at least 45 minutes or overnight and then shampoo and condition your hair.
   3. Repeat this remedy a few times a week.

Apple cider vinegar works as a natural hair clarifier and helps clean clogged pores and hair follicles. Coconut oil helps eliminate dandruff due to its antifungal properties. Some people might find Apple cider vinegar too strong, i usually apply tea tree and eucalyptus oils after washing my hair.

2. Tooth whitener and Blackheads remover
Mix bicarbonate of soda with lemon into a paste and use a brush to apply on your teeth and leave for 5-10 minutes then clean it off with warm water. @Lufuno can we get feedback on this nnake…did you try the remedy?

N.B. Regular use of baking soda can cause permanent damage to teeth

3. Hands/body  and feet soak
a. Mix brown sugar with enough olive oil and honey into a paste (put in a bottle…last longer). Rub it all over hands, scrubbing, wash off and apply hand lotion. It helps moisturise and keeps hands soft and wrinkle free….@IDAHK hello bhuti *waves*

b. For softer, smooth feet, scrub your feet with the brown sugar and olive oil mixture and wash off. In a basic, put a ¼ of original blue Listerine mouthwash and add ¼ vinegar and a cup or 2 warm water and soak your feet for 20-30mins. Dry your feet and apply homemade body butter made of 1 cup coconut oil, 1Tbspn vitamin E oil and 3-5 drops of any essential oil.

c. To treat dry, cracked feet. Clean feet and apply body cream (not lotion!) or blue seal Vaseline, cover with plastic bag and wear socks overnight.  Be careful…plastic makes noise so maybe you should do this one when bae/bab’bae is not around. Thank me later!

4. Facial scrub/masks and toners
Mix the ingredients together in a bowl and apply to your freshly cleansed face. Massage the mixture gently into your skin for several (2-3) minutes before washing off. This scrub is very good for those with oily skin. And instead of brown sugar, you can also use bicarbonate of  soda.

b. Anti aging Exfoliator.

Mix equal parts of lemon juice (fresh), olive oil, brown sugar and honey. Exfoliating  helps makes skin glow!

c. Can we stop using Gentle magic…yes/no? for those who want to turn into abo Mshoza. By end of week 1 you will be a yellow bone *smile*

After cleaning your face, apply milk with a cotton wool or hand to your face and leave over night. Repeat this 3-7 days a week…..Milk do wonders to skin. Dr Mpofu for who?for what?
d.Mix rose water, pure coconut oil and olive oil and use as a toner…especially for those with acne or any problem skin.

Beauty Tip!
In an empty mascara tube, pour castor oil and use it as a serum for lashes and brows. Believe me, you wont need this plastic eyebrows that resembles shongololo legs! Castor oil helps makes brows thicker..

5. Hair
a. For those who are not blessed with @Lufuno’s nice thick hair…….
Peel and chop 2 onions and make into a pulp using a blender. Strain and add 2 tspns honey and any essential oil then apply to your hair focusing on the roots….you can use it as a deep conditioner and cover head with towel and leave overnight. #Poor bab'bae #Onion smell in the kitchen and in bed!

For receding hairline also try this....

-Mix equal parts of eucalyptus oil, olive and pure castor oil and apply around the hairline area. Use daily!

Once or twice a month give your hair a treat with:

P.S.  Coconut oil is very useful for weight loss. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and endocrine system. Further, it increases the body’s metabolic rate by removing stress on the pancreas, thereby burning more energy and helping obese and overweight people lose the weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who use coconut oil every day as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.  *waves @ TOLAHs Wohloza sales rep…
